Facing a tough winter

5th October 2021

Millions of people will see a £20 reduction in their weekly Universal Credit payment with effect from 6 October 2021. This is happening at about the same time as the furlough scheme ends, fuel price increases and the cap on rents is withdrawn.  The reduction will affect many adults and children in the Braintree District.

Our Foodbanks are already beginning to see larger numbers of visitors and we expect further increases as we enter these autumn and winter months.  As much as we don’t want people to have to use Foodbanks, we are always there for those in need.

We would like to thank everyone who wrote to their local MP to ask for the Universal Credit lifeline to remain in place.
