Lived Experiences
Terms and Conditions
Below are the full terms and conditions involved in the project. We ask that you read these in full before making you decision whether or not to take part
Why are you doing a lived experience project?
Food poverty and not being able to afford the essentials is a very real 21st Century problem. Braintree Area Foodbank can demonstrate this in several ways. For instance, we can say how many food parcels we have given out and how many clients we are seeing, but this is all numerical data.
All visits to any Braintree Area Foodbank centre is dealt with the strictest confidence, which means we do not record or take notes of anything discussed when a client collects their food parcel. All information that is gathered about a client on a Foodbank voucher is used for that purpose and no other purpose.
What we need is information about why someone needs a Foodbank voucher, what their visit to a foodbank centre was like and how it helped them. We are hoping that our lived experience project will help us to better plug the gaps in support, reduce the stigma around modern hardship and give food poverty a voice.
How will you gather the information?
Braintree Area Foodbank will be conducting interviews with people who have opted in to participate. The interviews will be conducted as either
- An in person interview that will last no longer than forty five minutes
- A video interview that will last no longer than forty five minutes
- An online version of the questions to answer upon request
- A telephone interview that will last no longer than forty five minutes
The interview you give will be audio recorded and transcribed. All information will be stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR.
Who will be doing the interviews?
Foodbank staff and specific volunteers will conduct interviews
- Charity Manager
- Community Outreach Officer
- Communications Manager
- Communications Assistant
What safeguards will be in place for the interview?
Braintree Area Foodbank understands that the topics discussed are very sensitive and sometimes upsetting. We can provide information about support agencies that can help you, if this happens.. Braintree Area Foodbank will ensure that full Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies are followed during the interviews. If you are responding via email you will need to let us know if any health or wellbeing issues have been triggered and we will signpost you to support.
The interviewers hold the right to cancel any interview where they feel threatened or there is a perceived risk toward them. This will be done straight away and any reason will be supplied, if required, upon request.
Will you use my name?

We may use another person to speak some of your interview to tell your story but protect your identity
