Every year in September and October schools, churches, nursery’s and many other organisations come together to celebrate the food gathered from that year’s harvest.

Harvest time is an important time to feel blessed with the food that has been gathered in, but it can also be a time when food poverty is highlighted.

client with cup of tea in foodbank centreIn the Braintree Area we face a food poverty crisis which is set to grow in this time of economic uncertainty. Many of those who need our help find themselves in situations that no one could plan for. These circumstances include ill health, adjustments made through the introduction of the national wage or even the old and disabled whose benefits may be altered or stopped altogether. Last year we fed almost 3,000 people and in today’s world this is not good enough. That is why we have launched our annual Harvest Appeal for the local community to help those in need around them.

In previous years we have been well supported by many in the local community including schools and churches and we have been incredibly grateful for all that we have received. Without your generosity and continued support we would not be able to continue the much needed work that we do. This year we are encouraging others to come on board and help us to stop food hardship.

We are more than happy to come and discuss our work at the Foodbank and how this work matters within the community. If your church or school want to know more we can supply leaflets and posters and if you want a list of food that we need we can send you the shopping list straight away.

We alsHoliday_meal_projects-1o need monetary donations to be able to continue this work. It costs £14 to supply food to one person (excluding food) and we fed over 954 children last year and if we do not receive enough monetary donations our ability to supply this service and feed these children will have to stop. This is why we are launching our Harvest Appeal on our Charities Choice web page. You can either  search for Braintree Area Foodbank on the Charities Choice website or donate now via the button above.

Whatever you can give will really make a difference to someone’s life.
