Christmas Appeal 2016

20th November 2016

Christmas Food Donations

Christmas is a time of great celebration and joy for many, as they come together with family and friends but for some the prospect of Christmas causes anxiety and distress especially for those who are on a low income or on zero hour contracts. A donation from our Christmas shopping list will provide those in need with the type of Christmas that many others enjoy.

For some it will mean facing both food and fuel poverty, increasing the need for our services as people swap keeping warm for eating. We welcome both food and monetary donations to assist us in putting together warm packs to help keep children and adults warm over the winter. These packs include that include insulated mugs and thermal blankets, socks and hats.

Last December the Braintree Area Foodbank fed 370 people. Of this number145 were children and unfortunately we fear this is only going to rise.  A report entitled ‘A profile of people living in Braintree’ from May 2016, highlights that Braintree has a higher than average percentage of children living in low income families (under £15 thousand pounds a year) which makes our work all the more important. With families living on low incomes likely to rise our work will become an even more needed service. This is why our Christmas appeal is all the more important. To help make Christmas better for another family or person in food crisis this Christmas food donations are vital Donations are always welcomed but for them to be distributed to clients before Christmas we would need to have them at the beginning of December. Here is how to make a difference:
