Winter Appeal 2018 is launched

12th November 2018

This years appeal is asking for donations of normal food items, as apposed to Christmas items, as we do not have enough stocks of food to be able to feed our visitors at the levels we are seeing.  As fast as the food donations are coming in, we are giving it out and have feed over 2000 people since April 2018. This situation will worsen during winter when people have to chose between food or fuel.
Although Christmas food is a treat, we are appealing for food that will give someone  food for three days rather than just one day.

How can I help?

Reverse Advent Calendar 2018

Advent calendars have become big business where people have gone from a picture behind a door to chocolate to now beauty products and alcohol.  Instead of receiving a gift via an Advent calendar, this year we are hoping that you will donate instead.  Download our calendar and collect the item on that day.  This has been designed so that you can do this for twenty-four days and not by dates on a calendar, though you can always follow that.

Once you have collected all of your items you can donate them to the libraries in Braintree, Witham or Halstead. For the full list click here

Please be aware that the Foodbank warehouse will be closed 24th December so no deliveries or collections will be done on this date

Have a non uniform day and bring in an item from our shopping list

Why not run a non uniform day with a difference and instead of paying an amount to take part, why not ask children/staff to chose an item from our Winter Appeal list and donate it.

Bring a tin to work day

All you need to do is to encourage staff to bring in an items from the Winter Appeal list, or from the reverse Advent calendar, and then make your donation.  If you are a small or large organisation perhaps you could run a in house competition. For example the items on our lists have a weight which can be added up, this means that you could calculate the amount your donating and then see who can donate the most.

Donate £24 pounds to help us to continue our work

You can make a difference by donating £24. This is £1 for each day of Advent.

It costs us £40,000 to keep our warehouse and offices running.  Without funds we would not be able to provide the help that we do in the Braintree, Halstead and Witham.

You can send payment in several ways.

  • Online
  • Standing Order Form
  • Or you can send a cheque made payable to ‘Braintree Area Foodbank Ltd.’ to our postal address.

We hope you have fun collecting for us and we would love to see any photo’s of events or your reverse Advent calendar donations, please email
