Winter Appeal 2024

Everything you should need to help us this winter

In 2022, we were inundated with questions about how people were going to survive the cost of living crisis. At that time, it was a difficult question to answer, as the real impact was not yet evident. However, in 2024 everyone is feeling the impact.  That item of food ,placed in our donation bin, is now needed to feed someone themselves. This is why donations are down and we are spending tens of thousands of pounds purchasing the food we need to meet the increasing demand on our services.

Vanessa Green, the Communications Manager for Braintree Area Foodbank said ‘Two years on and the effects of the war in Ukraine and the Liz Truss mini budget are still being felt by all and we are set for another record breaking year of people needing our help and our food parcels.  It is not just those on low incomes, the disabled or those who have monetary problems that we are seeing. Working families are coming to our centres, whose mortgages that have risen astronomically, needing our help to survive.  This is a worrying trend.’

Vanessa continued ‘At Braintree Area Foodbank we are continuing to support everyone including the increasing trend of people entering in to food poverty that have never faced this situation before. That is why this winter we are asking, if you are able, that you donate an item from our Winter Appeal shopping List.’

This is also why our Winter appeal focuses on food essentials rather than Christmas snacks and treats (although we will gladly accept those items!) A tin of soup can keep someone warm rather than a mince pie. This year’s list also contains items needed for our Warm Packs, that we supply to those who find themselves homeless.

Both the shopping list and reverse advent calendars contain a QR code so that you can find your nearest donation point.

We are also pleased to release our reverse advent calendar for 2024.  Although designed to start on 1 November 2024 you can start at any time as this contains non Christmas items.

The lists and links to our donation points are below.

We are also accepting monetary donations via our online donation portal Wonderful.org. Or you send us a cheque made payable to ‘Braintree Area Foodbank LTD’ to our postal address at the bottom of this page.

If you would like more information, please email [email protected]

Any donation big or small will help someone this winter.
