Every year Doug McKenzie of Earls Colne uses the Reverse Advent Calendar to encourage donations to our Foodbank. Doug picks up donations from St Andrew’s Church, Earls Colne, and from the Earls Colne Recreation Club, every Monday and drives them to our Halstead Centre. This year, as always, the response has been overwhelming.
He reports on donations each week on local Facebook pages, including The Three Colnes’ Churches; since mid-November, he has collected a total of 24 boxes and 39 heavy bags of groceries, plus several cash donations. There are donations for him to collect every single week, but at this time of year, his car boot is full every time.
Doug thanks the Earls Colne Recreation Club for storing the donations, and the people of Earls Colne and White Colne for their generosity. (White Colne residents also drop off donations at the Recreation Club). Over the last few weeks, Earls Colne and White Colne-rs have donated close to 50 reverse advent calendars in boxes and bags. We at Foodbank, in turn, offer our warm and heartfelt thanks to Doug.
Of course, Advent continues until Christmas Day, and Doug is still collecting, at St Andrew’s Church (whenever it is open) and at the Earls Colne Recreation Club at 9am on Mondays.
