The cost of living effect has Foodbank visitors increase by 38%

12th January 2023

Braintree Area Foodbank have reported a record year for visitors in 2022 with an increase of 38% and they expect this to trend to continue in 2023.

Before the cost of living crisis and soring energy bills hit this year the main reason for visitors to Braintree Area Foodbank had been those on low income but in 2022 this reason sky rocketed by 53% as economic hardship has hit households.

Lee Ranson, Project Manager for the Foodbank commented ‘2022 has been the busiest year since Braintree Area Foodbank opened in 2012 and we are prepared to face the challenges that 2023 will bring. With continued help from the general public, local businesses and the referral agencies we work with, we are here to help everyone who is facing food poverty.’

Mr Ranson continues ‘The commitment and dedication shown by everyone across all areas of the Foodbank has been awe-inspiring. From our teams in the warehouse, transport, office and centres, as each volunteer has answered the call as each person has answered the call to help those in food poverty and we can’t thank them enough.’

With the number of visitors only set to rise Braintree Area Foodbank are asking those who wish to make a food donation use their monthly shopping list or BanktheFood App.  Each food parcel supplies enough food for three days and is made up of specific items for nine meals.  Donating an item from their list ensures that the Foodbank can continue to provide nutritionally balanced meals and maintain their stocks.
